Polynomial reproduction for univariate subdivision schemes of any arity

چکیده
In this paper we study the ability of convergent subdivision schemes to reproduce polynomials in the sense that for initial data, which is sampled from some polynomial function, the scheme yields the same polynomial in the limit. This property is desirable because the reproduction of polynomials up to some degree d implies that a scheme has approximation order d +1. We first show that any convergent, linear, uniform, and stationary subdivision scheme reproduces linear functions with respect to an appropriately chosen parameterization. We then present a simple algebraic condition for polynomial reproduction of higher order. All results are given for subdivision schemes of any arity m ≥ 2 and we use them to derive a unified definition of general m -ary pseudo-splines. Our framework also covers non-symmetric schemes and we give an example where the smoothness of the limit functions can be increased by giving up symmetry. Citation Info

Unification and Application of 3-point Approximating Subdivision Schemes of Varying Arity
In this paper, we propose and analyze a subdivision scheme which unifies 3-point approximating subdivision schemes of any arity in its compact form and has less support, computational cost and error bounds. The usefulness of the scheme is illustrated by considering different examples along with its comparison with the established subdivision schemes. Moreover, B-splines of degree 4and well know...
متن کاملA ternary 4-point approximating subdivision scheme
In the implementation of subdivision scheme, three of the most important issues are smoothness, size of support, and approximation order. Our objective is to introduce an improved ternary 4-point approximating subdivision scheme derived from cubic polynomial interpolation, which has smaller support and higher smoothness, comparing to binary 4-point and 6-point schemes, ternary 3-point and 4-poi...
متن کاملThe Mask of Odd Points n-Ary Interpolating Subdivision Scheme
We present an explicit formula for the mask of odd points n-ary, for any odd n 3, interpolating subdivision schemes. This formula provides the mask of lower and higher arity schemes. The 3-point and 5-point a-ary schemes introduced by Lian, 2008, and 2m 1 -point a-ary schemes introduced by, Lian, 2009, are special cases of our explicit formula. Moreover, other well-known existing odd point n-ar...
متن کاملScalar multivariate subdivision schemes and box splines
We study convergent scalar d-variate subdivision schemes satisfying sum rules of order k ∈ N, with dilation matrix 2I . Using the results of Möller and Sauer in [18], stated for general expanding dilation matrices, we characterize the structure of the mask symbols of such schemes by showing that they must be linear combinations of shifted box spline generators of a quotient polynomial ideal J ....
متن کاملQuad/triangle subdivision, nonhomogeneous refinement equation and polynomial reproduction
The quad/triangular subdivision, whose control net and refined meshes consist of both quads and triangles, provides better visual quality of subdivision surfaces. While some theoretical results such as polynomial reproduction and smoothness analysis of quad/triangle schemes have been obtained in the literature, some issues such as the basis functions at quad/triangle vertices and design of inte...
